Camera crew Geoff Mackley and Brad Ambrose were two men on a mission in the north Canterbury hills.

They had been sent there on Tuesday to record the snowfall. What their cameras captured though was a large moving object. A UFO - an unidentified feline object.

Jendy Harper has their story and their images.

Watch the video.

We live in North Canterbury and our neighbor saw a very large black cat (too big to be a cat), was the size of a Pantha. A few weeks later our neighbors very large horse were attacted and ended up having to be shot, wounds where so bad!!

I think it is true. We just returned from NZ and we were just outside Queenstown at the shotover jet boats and I was taking photos and saw a large cat that looks just like a mountain lion. I took 2 photos of it

What rubbish. If a big cat went missing from a zoo or circus people would know about it. No one has lost one so none exist. You can not import them either.

Way to investigate a story Jeff Mackley and Brad and Jendy. The road marker may be half buried but the red stripe and height to top of post doesnt change. Therefore cat approx 600mm long nose to bottom if Jendy Harper is 165cm tall !

I live in a rural area and I've shot many feral cats. After a few generations in the wild they grow to a huge size. We got one once that was 8 kg of solid muscle and a number of smaller (but still large) cats. These are not cats you would ever have as a pet. I've herd stories of really huge specimens. The ones I personally shot are large enough to make me take these sorts of reports seriously.

$100 per week is pretty tough to feed a family of 4. We are a family of 3, 2 adults and a very hungry 13 year old and we spend $150 per week. We get our 5 plus a day and have 3 square meals a day.I make home made lunches for all of us so we don't need to spend at the cafes.I am able to buy some treats like biscuits and chips every other week. We always have seasonal fruit in the bowl, weetbix, milk and bread.I think if I spent more on groceries I would buy more rubbish foods that are quick and easy.

If you pause at 22 seconds you can see the cat walking past one of those white road side reflectors, it just looks like a normal cat. Sorry to burst you bubble guys.
