Captain America co-creator Joe Simon dies

Captain America co-creator Joe Simon has died at the age of 98.

He passed away in New York City on Wednesday after a brief illness.

The writer teamed up with illustrator Jack Kirkby to create a number of heroes and villains for Timely, the forerunner to Marvel Comics, and National Periodicals, the company which later became DC. Their characters included Newsboy Legion, Manhunter and Sandy the Golden Boy.

Captain America debuted in December, 1940.
