Indeed to act violently against a protest vessel much smaller and frail then the Shonan Maru is shameful.
Questions I would like to ask the Japanese Government are:
What protocol did the caption of the Shonan Maru use before the incident happened?
Does international maritime law allow ramming of protest vessels by commercial vessels?
We feel that the act of violence towards Earthrace fringes on the breach of Article 9 of the Japanese Constitution which reads:
ARTICLE 9. Aspiring sincerely to an international peace based on justice and order, the Japanese people forever renounce war as a sovereign right of the nation and the threat or use of force as means of settling international disputes. (2) To accomplish the aim of the preceding paragraph, land, sea, and air forces, as well as other war potential, will never be maintained. The right of belligerency of the state will not be recognized
Although The Shonan Maru is not a military vessel, it is a Japanese Vessel owned, used and maintained by a Japanese company and this vessel used force as a means of setting a international dispute being protestors right to protest"
