A car smashed into a power pole near the intersection of Mt Eden Rd and Balmoral Rd in the Auckland suburb of Mt Eden, this morning.
Power lines came down and were laying across the road, causing tailbacks on the southern side of Mt Eden Road.
Power to houses in the surrounding area was knocked out. The power is now back on, with the exception of the house opposite the power pole.
The driver of the car was able to walk free after the fire service lifted the power lines from his car.
It is not believed anyone was seriously hurt or killed.
Traffic is now running slowly through the area as the power pole is being repaired.
The circumstances surrounding the incident are not yet known.
