The car's 81-year-old driver has been hospitalised

An elderly man has been hospitalised after a car crash at a railroad in South Auckland.

The 81-year-old lost control of his vehicle, flipping upside down onto a railway bank in Papatoetoe.

He was taken to Middlemore Hospital with serious injuries.

Southern train services have been affected and short delays are expected.
