The NRL may take action against Sydney Rooster Todd Carney after he was involved in a new year’s eve incident in which a friend received burns to his backside.

Carney was with friends at Airlie Beach in Queensland when the incident occurred. The victim was admitted to hospital.

Police will not investigate the incident unless a formal complaint is lodged.

The NRL will decide whether they take action against Carney after they receive a report from the Roosters about the incident.

23-year-old Carney was released from the Canberra Raiders in 2007 after a series of off-field incidents including a high speed pursuit and played for the Atherton Roosters in the Cairns competition during 2009.
