While summer time may have seen your cat lying outside basking in the sun and watching the world go by, the hot weather does increase stress in many animals.
Cat fights certainly increase during the summer months as so many cats are outside.
It is also kitten season for strays so many tom cats will be roaming the neighbourhood and potentially bullying your cute kitty in their own territory.
When anxious because of another cat, some cats may begin to spray in the home to mark their territory.
Male and female cats do this even if they are neutered. Some cats can begin to over-groom themselves or can begin to act nervously and even show some signs of aggression.
If your cat does get bitten you don’t always notice it immediately, your cat may begin to go lame if it was bitten on the leg, some cats find it hard to sit down if bitten on the tail area or you may notice swelling around the head.
Usually when cats have been bitten the puncture wound develops a scab and traps lots of bacteria, dirt and hair inside the wound. This can begin to create an abscess with lots of pus and your cat will need to see a vet for treatment.
If you have noticed your cat has started showing signs of anxiety then maybe try a product called Feliway which can help calm some cats when stressed. Make sure the cat flap only allows your cat through it and if you can keep your cat inside at night this is ideal.
Keep an eye on your kitty and hopefully they will have a bite free summer.
