Convicted armed robber Kevin Polwart, has had another nine months added to the sentence he was serving before his escape from Auckland Prison at Paremoremo in December.

Polwart, 49, was recaptured last Thursday after a tip off from the public and appeared in the North Shore District Court today where he was sentenced to nine months in prison for escaping from custody.

Polwart escaped by cutting through two wire perimeter fences and leaving the message "catch me if you can".

Polwart was eight years into a sentence for the armed robbery of a security van and related offences. It's understood he was 14 months away from being considered for parole.
