The cuts could see mobile rates slashed

Calls to mobile phones could be about to get cheaper.

The Commerce Commission is set to announce dramatic cuts to mobile termination rates this morning - the fees phone companies charge one another to answer a call.

The rates are expected to be cut by about 10c a minute and could be chargeable by the second, no longer rounded up to the minute.

Once the decision is made it's still unknown whether phone users will see the cuts passed on.

Joining Rachel Smalley on Firstline this morning was Telecommunications Users Association chief executive Paul Brislen.
