Central Districts coach Dermot Reeve is to take injury-leave for the remainder of the domestic one day cricket championship.
Central Districts chief executive Blair Furlong today said Reeve injured his foot during warmups on January 4, but had continued on for the three remaining weeks of the Twenty20 matches.
Doctors had now advised him to wear a moonboot for the next three weeks and restrict weight-bearing activities for up to six weeks while he recovers.
Reeve risked prolonging the injury if he continued to put weight on his foot, Furlong said in a statement today.
"Dermot will keep in touch with Central Districts and will continue to be consulted with selection options by the other Stags selectors Scott Briasco and Gary Cunningham.
"It is anticipated that if the rest and recuperation goes well, Dermot will return to the Stags prior to the end of the Plunket Shield competition in March."
The news follows media speculation that Reeve had fallen out with his players and might leave the team before completing his contract through to May 31.
