Certified Copy is one of the very few, if any, of Juliette Binoche’s films I haven't loved immediately.
In fact, I almost find it difficult to even like.
In this, her character Elle meets up with author James Miller, and they take a drive in the gorgeous Italian countryside talking about all manner of things. The “are they or aren’t they” story just didn’t float my boat on any level, not helped by less than convincing performance from British actor William Shimell, and a meandering and disengaged narrative.
Perhaps if you embrace the pace and mood from the outset, and prepare yourself for little resolution, you may fare better than I.
Two and a half stars.
