Police have charged the man after this Target sting

By 3 News online staff

The tradesman at the centre of a hidden camera sting received name suppression when he appear at the Manukau District Court today.

Police laid charges after the carpet cleaner was caught committing an indecent act on hidden camera for TV3 consumer show Target.

In the show the man can be seen going through the drawers of a customer – a Target actress – looking at photos on her dresser and rifling through her laundry bag – repeatedly sniffing multiple pairs of her underwear.

The man was then seen kneeling in front of the computer where he accessed pornography and began masturbating into a pair of underwear he had removed from the laundry basket, before “finishing on them” and putting them back.

He returned twice to the computer, fondling himself again, before something spooked him and he quickly got up.

The man is charged with burglary and wilfully accessing a computer and will appear in Manukau District Court today.

Target aired the episode last night as a “cautionary tale, firstly for homeowners and secondly, the tradespeople who think they can behave like this in clients’ homes when they aren’t there”.

Target producers handed the footage to police because of the “extreme nature of his behaviour”.

A response from the man’s employer was aired at the end of the show, where the company’s chief executive expressed his disgust and shock and the “uncouth antics of the person caught on tape”.

“He fully deserves to be exposed for what he did while placed in a position of trust.”

He has been sacked from his job.

More charges could follow when forensic tests are carried out on the underwear and the computer has been searched.

The man will reappear in court on June 6.

To Daniel
I run a carpet cleaning business with staff ...it takes skill to do this work.It is also not only just cleaning carpet but flood work too.
We also have qualifications to attain and you are not aware of this.
Obviously you were not trained in any skills and just sucked carpet as an untrained worker ..good on you..you learnt nothing and our trade is better without you in it!!!!!!.
As far as being a sparkie ..I hope you learnt not do the same ..and not use only half a brain as you did when sucking carpet..
Best you stick to writing comments about other peoples work.
I do not support this idiot who tossed off in the house ..yes he deserved to get caught ..and get shamed.
For the simple reason he had no respect for his pregnant wife or his employer ...I feel for the them and they dont deserve to shame from this toerag.
As a person who acts like this in other peoples homes ..it is a crime ...imagine if it was your home he was in ..or your daughters room.
He deserves all he gets ..and more ..no excuses.
Again i fell sorry for those he has also shamed .. no employer or family member want this black cloud on them :(

I wonder if this is not going to jeopardise his right to a fair trial. I also wonder if broadcasting it on national tv not to mention promoting it breaches his privacy. Really it should have been enough to refer the matter to the police and provide the normal coverage of Hidden camera trial rather than broadcast the piece in full, which was probably only done for ratings given its salaciouness. The Guy was wrong... in so many ways, but he is still entitled to some level of privacy.

When is this guy going to be charged in relation to his masturbating? Is it a not a crime to masturbate into somebody's clothing in their home against their wishes?

I wonder how many times these vile acts were carried out in other peoples homes and what is being done about that. There is no way that this was a single act...Well Done Target for exposing this person.

Jayson; The burglary charge was because he plugged in her internet and stole her internet usage.
