Charlotte Dawson has settled in Sydney

New Zealand celebrity Charlotte Dawson reckons she was run out of her home country, but that Sydney welcomed her with open arms.

So why do Aussies love what us Kiwis chose to hate?

60 minutes went to Sydney to find the answer.

As a judge on Australia's Next Top Model, Charlotte Dawson rubs shoulders with Australia’s A-listers.

And she’s everywhere; TV, magazine covers, parties and gossip columns.

But there’s a darker, lonelier side to the glamorous party girl.

In an intimate interview with TV3's former Australia correspondent, Amanda Gillies, Charlotte reveals the reasons she had to leave New Zealand, saying comments from gossip columnist Rachel Glucina were a big factor.

Just finishing watching the 60 minute segment on Charlotte Dawson and mate shes a fantastic kiwi. Just a real pity us kiwi's back here in NZ have to treat one of our own like crap. What ever happened to the good old kiwi hospitality especially when it comes to one of our own. To come back home to reflect after a really difficult time in Aus and to be treated like that, who in their right mind would want to live in an enviroment as hostil as this; Auckland socialites or should I say the D, I mean the A list you guys really need to look at yourselves and never judge a book by its cover. Rachael Glucina SHAME ON YOU! if you dont have anything constructive to say then keep your negative comments to yourself, it's incompetent journalism reporting that creates negativity and disharmony and finally Charlotte if you still cant find anyone in Sydney come back home I'll marry you....lol

14 people have now commented and it was a 60 minute item. Not sure what is more tragic. The story, the reporter or the person who just talks about fashion. Get a life the lot of you.

I think really Charlotte forgets that being part of the small (A list) ha ha wannabes group in Auckland and the media (even smaller circle)is totally toxic - but nothing like the real population - suffering from depression does not help when you're faced with that toxic world every day as well. She's done really well in spite of it all.

I like Charlotte, I just think that as Kiwi's we don't really give a toss about celebratory, we are don’t to earth and we don't kiss ass and we don't worship, which is why we didn't 'get her'. We are not impressed by celebrities, it's not tall poppy, we genuinely are just not a pretentious race of people

Well, I think Charlotte is gorgeous, inside and out, so does my household, we loved watching her on TV, I think the green eyed monster has reared its ugly head when it comes to Miss Glucina.
You keep being fabulous in Sydney Charlotte...enjoy yourself and life is so precious.

Rachel Glucina seems to have a vendetta for a few people - Sally Ridge and Nicky Robinson / Watson included. She made the comment in her 'response' article that she doesn't know Charlotte that well ... that being the case, why does she have so much to say about her?

You only have to look at Glucina's dedicated 'guess who don't sue' column to gather that she either doesn't have enough material so has to make it up, or that she is scared to publish the names of people who will sue her for discrediting them!

Interestingly, she doesn't have a 'comments' section in her article - otherwise I'd be telling her this.

I don't know Dawson either but who cares if she strives to be famous - if she likes to be in the media all the time? Good on her.

As for Glucina's stab about her depression ... what more can I say other than she should be ashamed of herself. No, actually, the Herald on Sunday should be ashamed that they actually employ such a hideous person.

Who is she anyway? I recall her having a big falling out with Bridget Saunders, to which one of her parents stepped in to defend her - says it all really.

Gosh the haters out there never cease to amaze me and you Rachel Gluzina or Glucina or whatever your name is, are a prime example of the green eyed monster rearing its ugly head. So she's an ex model, so what? And her face was in every magazine and on every tv show for a while there, so what? So she likes to glam up, have work done, party like its 1999 whatever...so what!!!! Although Im proud to be kiwi I really think sometimes that we suffer from small town syndrome and it's so annoying and embarrasing. Charlotte I wish you all the luck over there in Sydney and I'm glad you are finally with those you appreciate and adore you, you deserve it. You're a survivor Charlotte so IN YOUR FACE RACHEL!!!

What a shame! It is unbelievable that people get treated this way in NZ. What does it say about the Kiwi Psyche. Bullies just got older but have never grown up, still have their highschool mentality. Shame on you.
