Brownlee is not discussing the central city rebuild plan at this stage

Earthquake Recovery Minister Gerry Brownlee is warning Christchurch City councillors they will be under scrutiny next year.

Mr Brownlee has criticised councillors for slowing the rebuilding process through a lack of understanding about the issues facing the quake-damaged city.

He has even said he has been asked to sack the council to let CERA concentrate on the rebuild.

But Mr Brownlee says there will be no knee jerk reaction.

“Let’s not race too far ahead of ourselves. Everyone has been through a very difficult year.

“But next year we are into full rebuild, so we would expect a whole lot of things to be done in a way that is not ‘business as usual’, but recognises we need to move at a pace that people want.”

Mr Brownlee is refusing to discuss Christchurch's central city plan, which was delivered to his office today.
