Chelsea remain top of the table in the English Premier League, but could have gone into the New Year with a more comfortable lead after they were held to a draw in Birmingham.

For a match that featured no goals, this was far from dull, Birmingham setting the scene in the opening minute with a near miss.

Birmingham's goalie John Hart was in the match early – he was a key figure at St Andrews as Birmingham extended their unbeaten run to 10 games as they restricted Chelsea to just one point.

Birmingham were not without chances either, opportunities presenting themselves time and time again, but offside decisions and near misses denied them any goals.

It was not that way in Manchester where Roberto Manchini's first match in charge saw City slip two goals past Stoke.

Liverpool beat a 10-man Wolves by the same margin at Anfield.
