Border security are on alert for the missing toddler Aisling

Known child abusers and sex offenders are now being targeted by police in West Auckland as fears grow that missing toddler Aisling Symes may have been abducted.

The two-year-old disappeared from Longburn Rd in the West Auckland suburb of Henderson on Monday night and in spite of an intense police air, ground and water search no sign of her has been found.

Police area commander Inspector Gary Davey said police were visiting known sex offenders or anyone with a criminal history of kidnapping or child abuse.

Reports of suspicious activity, including people approaching children in the area in recent weeks, were also being followed up.

"There have been some reports of suspicious activity ... I am not prepared at this stage to say it is linked or could possibly be linked but we are looking through all those."

Police had also yet to find a mystery Asian woman seen with Aisling moments before she disappeared.

With all the publicity surrounding the case it was unusual the woman had not come forward, Mr Davey said.

The woman was in her 30s, about 165cm tall with a medium build and long straight black hair.

She was wearing a black crew neck top, with three-quarter length sleeves, three-quarter length blue jeans, black leather sandals and black socks, and had a black and grey medium sized dog on a lead.

Aisling was described as being tall for her age, of European appearance, with light brown hair.

She was wearing a green parka jacket or ski jacket, blue jeans embroidered with flowers, and white tennis shoes.

Aisling's aunt Aithne Potts yesterday called for the release of her niece if she was being held.

"If you are the person who has my niece, we don't understand why you wouldn't have told us," she said.

"We don't understand why it is so long and we know nothing.

"So please, tell us where she is. We just want her home."

Mr Davey said police were "absolutely confident" they would have found Aisling if she'd fallen into a creek behind her home.

Please do not limit the search to only Auckland area. By now, if someone has abducted the child and have been listening to the news would have fleed to another place. They definately cant leave the country unless they have other means than flying. I pray and hope that Aisling is safe and will be returned home to her parents. I am a parent myself and it breaks my heart.

Are they only looking at paedophiles in Auckland area or are they looking at paedophiles in the whole country? I think all parole officers in this counrty should be verifying the where abouts of all paedophiles, at the time of Aisling's disappearance! Yeah and why has there been no chinese translation on the 1 and 3 news?

I agree with Nathalie dated on 08 OCT 2009, possible.
Also, try to think about if someone lost his/her child in Tsuinami weeks ago, then desperately wants to have her back...

Is there any possibility that some naive person living alone in some remote area to have a little girl as an accompanion. Or has she/he no access to see TV or listen to radio to report?
It is very sad and upset for us anyway.

I've been keeping updated on this topic of this precious little girl gone missing, it breaks my heart. As a new church, we are small, but our faith in God is big. We had prayer meeting tonight and as a group of people coming together we decided to pray that God may send his angels to help find this little girl. We prayed that who ever is in charged of this search, that their eyes may be opened and they will find the missing link of this case. We believe and have faith that Aisling Symes may be found tonight, she will come home safely to her parents. Thank you Jesus...
Love a little church in East Auckland.

I think they should elaborate on the description of the dog. Black and grey colouring could mean anything ie. an old black dog going grey which could be anything..Alternatively, it could be a blue heeler or a blue merle which are not very common and more readily identifible

Just maybe someone accidently smack the little girl and hidden her body, just maybe someone relative knows the whereabout of her little girl..
The asian women walking her dog might have taken her or simply the little toddler is kidnapped by a sickopath..
An American women faked her daughter's kidnappers and blame it on the blackman driving a black car or van, now the evil women is imprisonment for her false accusation and hope she rot in prison..

I was wondering, have the police put out the search dogs, or maybe they should get a chinese person to speak manderin on the news because maybe the asian lady they are looking for doesn't understand english.
