A five-month-old baby boy is one of two children who suffered burns after being doused in Sodium Hydroxide in Melbourne.

A nine-year-old boy is being questioned by police after the liquid was squirted off a rooftop car park off Chapel Street.

The distraught mother of the children was forced to run to a nearby café for help.

The children were then taken to the Royal Children’s Hospital with burns, but were later released. Experts say they are extremely lucky.

Police say they are now considering extra patrols of the area.
