A month-long police campaign against methamphetamine in Waikato discovered a mother high on P breastfeeding her baby and many other examples of the impact of the drug on children.

Detective Inspector Chris Page says children were found in nearly 20 percent of homes raided by police during the month-long methamphetamine operation called Operation Share, the Waikato Times newspaper reported.

He said the breastfeeding incident was a first for his 27-year policing career.

The drugged mother was one of 32 arrests made during the operation. Her baby was placed in the care of state-agency Child, Youth and Family.

The New Zealand Herald reported the operation also discovered a methamphetamine bag and pipe next to baby formula in the kitchen, traces of the drug in the cot of a one-year-old baby and traces in the hair of the baby and an older sibling.

Two children, including one with special needs who required regular treatment, were also found living in a P house.

Police recovered up to 10g of methamphetamine, more than $10,000 in cash, four firearms and two stun guns, $34,500 worth of stolen property including several laptops and a $20,000 car.

@ "Oh please ditch the PC" i'd like to know of examples where the Police aren't doing there respective job when it comes to Maori children being beaten abused or even killed? Feel free to give some examples! Just remember that the father of the Kahui twins was charged with the deaths of the boys but was found not guilty buy a JURY when it went to trial. That case certainly didn't help when Dr Pita Sharples told ALL of them not to speak with the Police!

Kelly. I'm not sure if I'm reading you write but if I am and your kids are exposed to P, then you should have your children taken away from you and your toxic environment. And I do mean that ambiguously. You really must be a disgusting individual who should never have had children in the first place.

@Helen. In the ideal world this would be true. But what the maori leaders insist on is dealing with the issue within maoridom and keeping it within the whanau. This only exposes the poor child to even more abuse from their uncles and abusers friends. This happens over and over again, but is being ignored by media and so called investigative journalists because it's the 'maori no go area' as I now like to call it. In some cases maori have now risen above the law with police not doing their respective job when it comes to a maori child being beaten, abused or even killed within the home, where anywhere else in the western world all people in the house at that time would be arrested and eliminated from inquiries one by until the the culprit is found and charged. Now with the given power of the maori party and their apparatchiks approval the perpetrators collectively stonewall the police to buy time and get their stories right until it all goes away. It doesn't but that's what they're trying to achieve. Unfortunately the majority of NZers have to silently scream at the lack of action and the sheer blatant one finger salute the lowlives give to the rest of New Zealand.

What we don't tell you is that over 90% of these cases were maori households. Of course they won't tell you that because it's now considered racist in NZ to mention maori in negative tones. Only everyone knows that it's true that 95% plus of all child abuse in NZ is committed by maori and it's almost an exclusive maori problem that they like to blame on everyone else. All very sad but very true at the same time.

Abused children should be put up for adoption to allow them a chance at a life with loving, responsible parents. They should not just be tossed around CYF and the wider whanau. This is just another form of abuse.
