Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell has dismissed reports he slammed Kanye West for disrupting the band's set at the Big Day Out, insisting his anger was aimed at the event's organisers.

The ‘Stronger’ hitmaker was one of the headlining acts at the Gold Coast BDO on Sunday night, but a heavy downpour meant West was late taking to the stage.

The volume of his set infiltrated Soundgarden's performance on a nearby stage, prompting the group's fans to boo and Cornell himself to speak out over the noise.

He shouted, "Sounds like there's children playing music there, retarded children, retarded as in held back. There's no other word for it."

Cornell's comments were seemingly aimed at West, but he's clarified his remarks and told fans he's only upset about the organisation at the event.

In a post on his Twitter.com page, he writes, "My comments (at) BDO were directed solely at inadequate tour production. Kanye had nothing to do with it! We love him."
