it is so sad that this is happening i have had people from there come and temporarily stay at our school as boarders there have been so many disasters this year like christchurch japan aukland and now spain its all very sad i came to this sight hoping to find info for a project and i did but what i also realised is how hard it must be for those in christchurch and i may only be 11 but i really want to do somethign to help people there and i am starting by doing a sponsered walk at school we all are going to dress up in the canterbury colours and walk around all day and we are all being sponsered i have got everyone i know to sponser me because i feel so sorry for everyone there and my cousins live there aand the way they talk about it is just horrible they have lost so many friends and family. next week my mum is going there to help this is part of her job as she is a police and she is going to take photos from it and give them to me to show the people when i am asking people to sponser me now i must go and do my project as it is due tomorrow and i dont want to be in trouble with my sccience teacher

HI all wondering about Sandy and the Devon BnB in Christchurch..Sandy is alive as is Angus they are staying with friends out of city she tells us she has to wait quite a few weeks till she will know the Devons future...she as you can image is pretty devastated but like all kiwis are made of tough stuff ,and she ,we hope will be ok in the not to distance future,so l hope this has eased some peoples minds .she is working her way though all the emails from people concerned about her and Angus and The Devon. Take care all ,stay safe and be thankful for what we have and lets hope that Christchurch will rise again....Susan in Australia.

Our Mum's home is in Bexley. She is alive and that alone is enough. But she has lost pretty much everything from silt and water damage knee high INSIDE her home. Now the reality sets in and 3 days cleaning liquidfaxion, endless silt that just doesn't shift very easily or quickly, is tiring work and fast depletes the ardrenaline and good will. We take our hats off to students who have slogged away at it, re-energised themselves on the generous support of donated food that though nourishing just doesn't taste the same eaten around sewage muck, with hands that just don't feel clean. We look around, we watch the updates and we can't help wondering where the media coverage and government assistance is in the eastern side. What aren't we doing to ensure we get the help so desperately needed. At last a port-a-loo across the road, we see the contracters trying to pack down pages road, (and why is there so much traffic wrecking what they have fixed), men up power poles and hidden in holes along the gutters restoring basic amenities. We get that! We are trying to help ourselves as much as possible, but we don't have cash upfront to pay for the costs, rubbish to dump at $200 a trailer load last time we went, $165 for a 3 tonne digger to remove the 2 feet+ of silt at the front door and then a smaller one for the back door. Help arrived from fellow Christians waiting for their ride and the decks ripped up, a few wheelbarrows of silt removed and we are given some much needed hope. What we haven't seen is an engineer, an assessor or someone to tell us the house is a right off so we can leave it or clean it up as much as possible to make it workable later on? The 0800 is great if you can get through.Priority - we get! Mum not wanting to leave says there are worse off than her, true maybe, but look behind her, she has lost all and won't ask for anything because she's worried about others. It is hard not to feel left out and forgotten because things here are so desperate.
