All flights to and from Christchurch have been cancelled for the remainder of today due to weather conditions.
Many flights elsewhere have also been delayed or cancelled, with snow and stormy weather across many parts of the South Island.
Heavy snow has fallen in parts of Canterbury and Marlborough, with the MetService warning snow could end up being more than 1m deep in places.
Several schools, roads, and courts are closed along with both Lincoln and Canterbury Universities.
The snow has also left more than two-thousand Cantabrians without power.
Air New Zealand has advised its customers that they will be booked onto the next available flight once normal service resumes.
