Police are urging two drivers to come forward after a double hit-and-run in Christchurch that has left one person dead.

Two cars were seen travelling in the same direction on Shands Rd in the suburb of Hornby, with one smashing into two pedestrians standing beside the road around 11pm last night.

Neither driver stopped, Christchurch police said.

One person was confirmed dead at the scene and the second victim was taken to hospital. They had not yet been named.

Police are appealing to the public for help in locating the vehicle, which they say would have extensive damage to the front.

They would also like to hear from the driver and passenger of both cars and were urging them to come forward voluntarily.

Police closed the road while they examined the scene overnight.

Cowards, low life cowards, will never amount to anything in their miserable lives, hope when they are found the key is thrown away, but then again some do-gooder will probably stand up for them and try and make out that the drivers were the victims in all of this.
