Umm actually a loan doesn't always have interest on it buddy In a loan, the borrower initially receives or borrows an amount of money, called the principal, from the lender, and is obligated to pay back or repay an equal amount of money to the lender at a later time. Cancer patients? since when did i bring them into this And for your information im not complaining about some silly $5,000 loan in my profession which i have chosen probably the most expensive one to get into is aviation. In which the 2 years i have done it has cost me $100,000 so if there was interest on this loan my part time job would hardly cover the interest on this, let alone me have money left over to pay the bills. So don't you dare tell me what struggling is you stubborn piece of work. I have worked damn hard to get to where i am, and have got off my a$$ to earn every qualification that i have gotten and im not going to have a complete tosser like your self take any of it away from me

Loan also implies that you will pay interest as is the case with a normal loan RB.

But you are moaning about your free ride dissappearing.. its quite childish.

And cancer patients on invalids benefits or other people with permanent illness, do deserve your respect RB.

They dont have the option of getting a job as doctors have ruled them in most cases.. incapable of holding one.

And employers wouldnt hire them even if National forced them to try to look for work.

You want to pick on people who are worse off than you so you dont struggle more.

And so you come on here to cry about the possibility of having to pay interest on your loan like every other normal person in New Zealand.

get over it.

I am starting to think the recovery is going to slow... With decomposing body's their making the task a very grim one... For family's and the recovery crews... If I had my family member still waiting to be recovered id be asking questions... Its like watching a very slow motion recovery that just goes on and on...

Thank you EB you have covered what i wanted to say about that ridiculous comment. Victor your argument is not a very strong one in the slightest. First you say that most cases are legitimate and that the payment is half of what the minimum wage is. Well why on earth would it be the same as the minimum wage???? people are going to work to EARN their money, people on the dol do not. Also you say that "Why do you think you deserve a free ride?" Correct me if i'm wrong but i have a student LOAN. LOAN implying that i will be paying it back, but yet your defending those on benefits who are getting a 'free ride' I have been constantly employed for 7 years since the age of 13. So if a 13 year old can go out and get a job what excuse do those have who are on the dol? NONE! the fact is they are to lazy to go out and look for work they expect a job to land in their lap. I did not expect such a negative response on a young man marking his mark on the world in a positive way, unlike a lot of my peers who drink drive and kill innocent people, commit crimes such as burglary and assault.

My God. The creatures (or in this case, policies) that come crawling out of the woodwork when a tragedy happens...

There is a very interesting video about the Gee Dubya years of office called 'The World According to Bush'. I sincerely hope you all track a copy down and inwardly digest.
10 or so minutes after the World Towers were destroyed in 11 Sept 2001, some of the neo-cons were in the war room at the Pentagon(?) suggesting this was the opportunity the US needed to invade Iraq! No proof of association needed, just the nefarious manipulation of public panic to serve their political agenda.
The reason I say this? What the hell will charging interest on student loans or lessening Working for Families support do to fix Christchurch's problems? This is despicable. After the HUGE tax cut given to the wealthy of this country last year, surely THAT would be the easiest...AND FAIREST place to start?
But no...not this government. National / Maori Party / Act / Peter Dunne...you disgust me!

"Higher education should only be avilable to those who can pay for it, for the elite families in New Zealand."
This is some of the most elitist dribble I have ever had the misfortune to come accross. If higher education is put out of the reach of any with the capabilities to succeed academically, how do you expect anyone to better themselves? You sound like you are writing from the Medieval period. Seriously how can such archaically classist views prevail in 21st Century New Zealand.
