The Christchurch City Council could be about to face a boycott from residents effectively paying double their rates.

Residents in the white zone have been given a 40 percent rebate by the council but are still expected to pay the remaining 60 percent despite not being able to live in their homes.

On top of that many are now paying rates on rentals.

With the decision on the future of their homes still months away, it is crippling the very people who have already lost more than they could afford.
