Dogs are being dumped on vets, the SPCA, pound, or are simply being abandoned

The pressure on housing in Christchurch, plus the stress of the ongoing earthquakes isn't just having an impact on people.

Animals right across Christchurch are stressed - and stressed out owners aren't coping either.

Dogs are being dumped on vets, the SPCA, pound, or are simply being abandoned. There are more unhomed dogs than the city can cope with right now. Vets are being driven to putting healthy dogs down.

Watch Natasha Utting's report.

What the problem with landlords? This is an emergency and it is hard enough to loose your home and also be required to loose your pet. Where is the love and compassion for our neighbours in need.

Can you go further with this story as to why so many Landlords are pedantic in their critera of no pets. If the pet be it Dog/or cat ( single or plural)have been a family member for some years and are house trained and loved surely this is adding to the stress of the situation that they have to be rehomed or put to sleep because the family or older owner cannot find accomadition that is 'Pet Friendly' Landlords should realise that unruley kids and teenagers can do more damage to a property than a Dog or Cat...
