Parliament's cleaners are paid much less than cleaners in private employment

Parliament's cleaners are paid much less than cleaners in private employment

Parliament's cleaners have given Prime Minister John Key a stern message - he should prepare to clean his own office.

The cleaners earn just 5c more than the minimum wage of $12.50 an hour, and they want Mr Key to personally help them or face the consequences.

The Service and Foodworkers Union wants the cleaners' wages increased by $2 an hour, to be in line with other public service cleaners.

Mr Key was filmed on the weekend at the Big Gay Out admitting he personally could not survive on the minimum wage.

To Lightseed. You are an idiot. I came back to this Banana Republic after 25 years in Aust. I had a business, and could not believe the difference in prices here than in Aust for the same services. Where in Aust I could charge $15 for a product, here I could have charged $50 and not a thing said and would have been at the lower end of the amount charged. The cost of raw materials here is the same as in Aust, so you can't use that as an excuse either. By the way this was in the signwriting business, where the employees here get nothing like their counterparts in Aust. Just in that business I can tell you a lot of businesses have 700 - 1000% markup. So don't come the raw prawns about businesses not being able to afford it. But then you as the mouth piece for Key and his mates nothin surprises me what comes out of your mouth.

Minimum wage is set to go up in Australia from its current $14.31 per hour.

Meaning that the drain the Australians are already placing on our workforce is going to be even harder to deal with.

Its about $100.00 one way to Australia now, many of our minimum wage earners will be attracted to depart and earn an extra $2.00 an hour or $80.00 a week.

Where will business be if all minimum wage earners decide to chuck in their jobs and head across the ditch?

This means that business will have to try harder to attract people by raising the hourly rate that they offer.

Raising the minimum wage will lose 9800 jobs according to you and John Key right?.

Keeping it where it is willl likely lose us twice that to the Australian workforce.

Either business decides to provide enough incentive for these people to stick around or in the very near future it faces the real possibility of a worker shortage.

Stop watching parliamentary TV all day and actually think for yourself, there are two sides to every argument and John Keys are generally wrong.

Many minimum wage earners are taken on by big business, in places like retail supermarkets that have been gouging the market with out of the world price increases.

Or farmers who are already on their way to recording record returns from fontera again.

Either business decides to participate in an economic recovery and lower its profit margins or it will be struggling for decades to staff its own operations.

Afterall we are only talking about 10 percent of the workforce.

Those arguing that prices will rise, well yes business greed is out of control so the likelyhood is business will look to gouge us to make up for the loss in its profit margins.

But if they dont look to the long term, more than 9800 people will be heading across the ditch, afterall wages are better, but not only that.. housing and food are cheaper as well.

And Jan to increase min wage so rapidly would see a large amount of people lose their jobs and business. Accsux, the politicans and public servants don't set their own wages. as for the rest of your rant, not really worth reading, you seem a very angry person who needs help. don't go to first world countries like America where in many states the min wage is $5
