No one is willing to take responsibility for the puppy remains

For a couple of weeks now Campbell Live been investigating the goings on at the Valley Animal Research Centre in the Manawatu.

It started with inquiries into the sale of dogs that had been bred for medical testing, but took a shocking turn when the show discovered piles of dead dogs left discarded in the backyard of the testing facility.

Today Campbell Live found the rotting carcasses were still there.

The owner of the property Margaret Harkema denies the rubbish is hers.

As it stands no will seems willing to accept responsibility for the clean-up.

How can she say the rubbish is not hers, there was a fridge shown with specimen jars! Not everyone keeps these in their fridges!, where did the yellow rubbish bags come from, (can you buy them at a shop), they don't look like any i have seen. The council ones are blue! Probably especially designed for hazardous goods! There is also a computer shown as well, maybe they should look into what is on the hard-drive to see exactly whos rubbish it is! why doesn't she just own up to the rubbish being hers and get it cleaned up. Just pure laziness

Yes, what is going on? Who were the Government officials that visited the site and didnt find any dogs, just so called possums? What a joke, do they think we are stupid? We need to get onto our Member of Parliament and demand some action - also an investigation into the practices at VARC and why nobody seems to be able to take any action against Margaret Harkema who has continued to sell animals involved in drug testing, who were the people on the animal ethics committee that were meant to be monitoring VARC? - I am going to be emailing the MP for this area - ianmckelvie@national.org.nz - we need to put some pressure on.

It is barbaric and inhuman that we still test on animals - any animals - in this modern era. To then do so in such a callous, awful way is beyond words. BUT I am glad that this has finally highlighted the issue. Until now, most Kiwis would not have known or would have turned a blind eye to the horrors of animal testing, or adopted a "not in my country" attitude. Whether in our country or not, behind closed doors or in horrific public view, testing on animals should not happen, ever.

How the hell can she say the rotting animals and rubbish isn't hers. She is part owner, there are note books in the rubbish that relates to the testing (dating last year, so much for stopping years ago) and the only place around that was breeding was the testing centre.....come on hopw stupid does she think the public is?? maybe these people need to be forced to clean up the dead animals by hand themselves, but then again they have shown that the dollar is more important than having ethics towards animals

Good on that Burrell guy from the council for admitting that the council had not done their job - especially when everyone else is passing the buck. Seems very weird though, what the hell is going on? Is this animal testing backed by big pharmaceutical companies who are closing rank? Stinks!
