Manly legend Cliff Lyons has been named coach of the Sea Eagles' NSW Cup team for 2012.

Lyons, who played 309 first grade games for Manly including the 1987 and 1996 grand final victories, is looking forward to working with his former team-mate Geoff Toovey, who is the new head coach of the NRL side.

Lyons, 50, has served a coaching apprenticeship in the Manly junior rugby league ranks, guiding the Narraweena Hawks to consecutive A-Grade premierships over the past two years.

"It'll be great to catch up with Geoff again. He captained Manly for many a year and I played outside him so it'll be good to get that combination back," says Lyons.

Toovey is thrilled to have Lyons in the coaching ranks.

"I've known Cliff since I came into grade in 1988. He has done a wonderful job coaching in the junior league and I look forward to his continued development of emerging players for the Sea Eagles," says Toovey.
