BioWare has ensured the already highly-anticipated Mass Effect 3 will not only impress on an aesthetic level, but also musically with the addition of Golden Globe nominee Clint Mansell and Emmy nominee Christopher Lennertz as composers for the game.
Mansell – a friend of Trent Reznor, who himself has been expanding his musical repertoire, creating the soundtracks for The Social Network and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo – received a Golden Globe nomination for his work on 2006 film The Fountain, which he worked on with director Darren Aronofsky.
The pair also worked together on Requiem for a Dream, The Wrestler and Black Swan. The soundtrack for Black Swan was well received, but because Mansell drew heavily on the music of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake was deemed ineligible for a Academy Awards nomination.
39-year-old Lennertz was nominated for an Emmy for his score of the pilot of TV show Supernatural and has worked on several videogames, including three Medal of Honor titles, 2008’s 007: Quantum of Solace and The Godfather II.
“With Mass Effect 3, we’re taking players on a more personal journey, even though the scope is bigger than ever – an all-out galactic war,” says Casey Hudson, executive producer of the Mass Effect series.
“Each composer has played an intricate role in delivering the combination of epic scope and delicate emotion that will make Mass Effect 3 the best game in the series.”
Joining Mansell and Lennertz on Mass Effect 3 are Cris Velasco, Sam Hulick and Sascha Dikiciyan, who have all contributed to previous Mass Effect games.
