Waitangi Day is a time to reflect on New Zealand's rich history and promising future, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton says.

In a statement sent on behalf of US President Barack Obama and the US people, Ms Clinton said she was delighted to send best wishes to New Zealanders "as you commemorate the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, this February 6".

"This is a time to reflect on New Zealand's rich history and promising future," Ms Clinton said in the statement.

"The United States and New Zealand share a vibrant partnership, shaped by the Wellington Declaration and our years of friendship and cooperation.

"We look forward to continuing to deepen our relationship in the coming year as we work together promoting peace and stability, protecting the fragile Pacific environment, expanding economic opportunity, and standing up for global human rights.

"The United States stands by New Zealand as you continue to face the challenges brought by earthquakes in the Canterbury region.

"Your resilience and strength have set an example for the world.

"As you observe this special day in New Zealand and in places around the world, I wish all New Zealanders a happy Waitangi Day, and a year filled with peace and prosperity."

The US have closer ties with NZ than anyone realizes. John Key especially. He has come from the big banking corps. The same organizations who are the real ones running this world, where all the money goes. Those who are intent on new world order. This is no myth and Key is involved. We have let this man come in to be our prime minister. Bad news for NZ and people here do not realize what they have done. Wake up people! we can stop this by all awakening and putting a stop to this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-CrNlilZho

The US is more concerned for their own peace and security by staying in bed with NZ than any genuine concern for NZ or the Pacific! After the first Canterbury earthquake I spent untold hours and countless emails begging the US Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)to convince the NZ Department of Civil Defence and Emergency Management(NZCDEM) to adopt the US system of local Civilian Emergency Response (CERT) Teams in NZ which has been proven to save lives in disasters like earthquakes but the US agency FEMA was obviously too gutless to upset NZ authorities and did nothing!
