Golden Gate Yacht Club has confirmed Club Nautico di Roma as the challenger of record for the 34th America's Cup.
GGYC is the home yacht club of Larry Ellison's BMW Oracle team which by won the cup by sailing their trimaran to their second straight victory over two-time defending champion Alinghi of Switzerland on Sunday.
GGYC's commodore Marcus Young said in a statement that he was "looking forward to working in close partnership with CNR and their challenging team - Mascalzone Latino owned by world champion sailor Vincenzo Onorato - to reinvigorate the Americas Cup."
Young added that GGYC's aim is "to ensure that the 34th America's Cup is built on the foundations of the competition's unique past as well as on a shared vision for its future."
