Rockers Coldplay will debut a new comic book series at this weekend's Comic-Con convention in San Diego, California.

The six-part concept will chronicle the story of the group's latest album Mylo Xyloto and it will be published by The Simpsons creator Matt Groening's Bongo Comics Group.

Chris Martin and his bandmates teamed up with Academy Award-nominated writer and director Mark Osborne on the project, which the group and Osborne conceived three years ago, according to RollingStone.com.

Osborne calls the project the latest expression of "a music-driven feature animated film that the band and I started developing several years ago.

"It is the story of Mylo Xyloto, a young Silencer on the front lines of a war against sound and colour in the world of Silencia. Mylo discovers that the enemy he's been trained to hate his whole life might not be the enemy after all. There will hopefully be many, many connections for people who have heard the album."

Osborne will appear at a Comic-Con panel on 13 July to officially launch the series.
