Veteran comedian Jon Gadsby will not spend time behind bars despite his fourth conviction for drink-driving.
Gadsby, 58, was sentenced in Christchurch District Court on Tuesday to six months' supervision and must complete 120 hours of community work.
Judge David Saunders also disqualified Gadsby from driving indefinitely and ordered his vehicle to be confiscated.
The Christchurch Court News website reports that since his arrest on June 3 last year, Gadsby had completed an alcohol rehabilitation course.
Gadsby had admitted drinking three glasses of wine and a glass of beer after a breath test showed a level of 1049 micrograms of alcohol per litre of breath. The legal limit is 400mcg.
Gadsby is best known for his role on 1980s television comedy show McPhail and Gadsby and was a television entertainer of the year, with co-star David McPhail in 1981. He was awarded the Queen's Service Order in 1992.
