Auckland's comedy festival kicked off last weekend and with over 100 comedians on show, it is hard to know who to talk to.
Nightline went with a simple option, picking some names that rhymed, and ended up with Dave Wiggins and Maeve Higgins. Higgins is Irish, Wiggins an American.
"I moved to New Zealand when I was 19 and I've been here seven years," says Wiggins. "So weird because Kiwis pick up on American accent but Americans don't know what I am."
Wiggins is a Christian, specialising in clean comedy.
"There's people that like clean stuff, and that's us, and there's people who like dirty stuff, but a bunch of people in the middle who just want it to be funny."
In response to being told she was chosen because her name rhymed with Wiggins, Higgins replied, "I think it's slightly humiliating for me because I like to think I'd get on TV because I'm good looking and hilarious. But I hear he's good, so maybe I should steal his material and use it in Ireland."
Indeed, that might work. Higgens and Wiggens agree Ireland and New Zealand have something essential in common.
"I think they have a similar sense of humour," says Higgens. "Self-deprecating and easygoing, which is good."
"In terms of Kiwi audiences, it's like, 'Go ahead, make me laugh,'" says Wiggens.
Unfortunately Wiggins and Higgens may never get to meet, as they are performing in Auckland on separate weeks.
