BIG BOOZE

There is a fierce debate going on right now, but most of it is happening behind closed doors. New Zealand’s alcohol laws are up for review which means how, where and when we can buy alcohol looks likely to change. Public health campaigners believe alcohol is a dangerous drug while the liquor industry is fighting hard to protect its rights. 60 Minutes reporter Paula Penfold investigates.

AN ARM AND A LEG

It sounds like science fiction, but the fact is biotech companies and the US government are pouring hundreds of millions of dollars into research they hope will one day make it possible for us to grow new body parts. 60 Minutes correspondent Morley Safer learns about some incredible developments.

I DREAMED A DREAM

Susan Boyle went from being an unknown, dowdy spinster into a megastar virtually over night. Her nightingale voice has won her fame and fortune but she chooses to remain living in the same pokey house, in the same rundown town that she has lived in her whole life. 60 Minutes reporter Charles Wooley talks to Susan about her story.

James@ if 700 thousand of us cant go out what do u think everyone will do! <--- really . Are you for real . So your saying if they ban alcohol the social scene of New Zealand will be over . Because the only reason 700 thousand people go out each weekend is to get violently drunk ? Or the only way people can have fun in New Zealand is under the influence of alcohol ? what a d!ck

alcohol vs weed wrote:

Legalize weed! I concider myself as a pretty heavy drinker, i hit town each weekend n go out to have fun with mates and dance in clubs and stuff, some times never remember how i got home. I rarely get angry when drinking or get into fights but i can see how easy it is for people to go from happy to a full anger buzz and want to start scraps, just over little things that you would usually let get to you. I try to avoid weed basicially only because its illegal, but i have had it on many occasions. And whilst being under the influence of weed all i feel is like chillin out with mates and trippin and having a laugh, i find it hard to get into a angry state of mind, i just always seem to be happy and find most normal things really funny. That is not something i do everytime i am drunk. I mean, when i drink i still have alot of fun and stuff but there has been many situations that have had the potential to get out of control/ violent, luckily i can control myself. Yea so i think they should concider legalising weed, i think it is alot safer.

People in NZ are bord thats why they drink too much. The government should create more things to entertain them. Australia has the gold coast with water world, movie world, sea world all sorts of amusment parks but what do we have rainbows end, realy? If the kids had more to do they wouldnt be concerned with drinking at such young ages, yes its not realy going to stop they ones that have already started but its a start and it might help the next generation. Plus there is the rubbish thats played on t.v. I mean how many times are they going to play reruns of Friends dont you have the money to buy new stuff. Lets just get more creative people Nz is a beautiful place and nice to visit but honestly its realy very boring for the people who live here, there's only so many times you can go to the beach or to skii.
