Karla Cardno's father Gary John Duffin

The name and image of Karla Cardno is etched into the memory of so many of us.

Her 13-year-old body found in a shallow grave, after she had been raped and murdered.

Now it is her father that is creating headlines. He has just been convicted of the rape of a young girl - not much younger than his own daughter back then.

In a rare move, his girlfriend was charged and found guilty of rape too.

But 60 Minutes has discovered there is much more to this story of abuse of underage girls.

Yes it's an unfair world and I know that Rebecca did'nt want Karla to be bought into it, She had thght he had not been arnd for her & She is horrified that he used karla's wonderful name in a wrongful matter. Her Thoughts are with you all.There have been atleast 6 girls come forward since this story and they all have the same experience as these two, Gary has been a victim of Sharyn's evil but that does not excuse his shocking crimes of rape etc against these teenagers, the damage it has done to Rebecca will never be undone.

It is unforgivable that Gary Duffin manipulated the tragic loss of his daugther to take advantage of 2 young girls at such a vulnerable time in their lives. Our sympathies are with the victims of this crime.

Gary Duffin was the estranged father of Karla. She did not have a relationship with him and new him as the person we have come to know. It hurts that she has been connected to Duffin's shameful acts.

Karla was a happy, bright and fun person to be around – an honour to have as a friend. Karla was always going to be someone of the highest integrity - this is how we remember her.
