What many people can't understand is how failing companies like AIG can pay out staggering bonuses. Often to the very employees who got them into the mess in the first place.

How important are bonuses in our corporate salary structure, and what is the likelihood of any excessive or unwarranted rewards in New Zealand?

Anthony Mason explains how the US bonus system works, and Peter Kerridge of recruitment firm Kerridge and Partners spoke to Michael Wilson about the NZ situation
