What a shame that Laura choose such a negative angle on the real positive news that a well designed and planned house can be built for $168,000. Rather than just bag this positive approach I wonder what her alternative approach would be? Cheep rentable apartments in high rise buildings like in housing estates in Hungary or England. I would have to assume that she hasn’t experienced this type of housing. The prospect of simple, well design modular housing constructed from good sustainable materials with the opportunity for the average kiwi to get involved and even make it more affordable by assisting with the building just has to be positive for anyone’s mind and body. Congratulations to Stephen Smith, from S3 Architects for a great entry.
Investors are going to love this. Buy real cheap houses by the dozen then rent them out at high prices and once again the average NZ family will have to rent to greedy people . . . this will only serve to make rich people richer by being able to buy these houses cheap and rent them expensive. Or hold onto them for 9 years or so and sell them at three - four times the price, once again making home owning out of reach for many people. It'll make no difference at all...
