Complaint over South Auckland police violence claims

3News NZ

A complaint is being laid against TVNZ after claims the Marae programme suggested the public should be fearful of the south Auckland police force.

Daniel Newman, chairperson of the Manurewa Local Board, has spoken out against the programme that aired this morning, calling it "an appalling piece of journalism".

Mr Newman says Maori Wardens directed criticism at Counties-Manukau police officers.

Mr Newman says the Manurewa Maori Wardens suggested police are committing acts of brutality against local residents and heavy-handed law enforcement.

He says it's absurd to cast the police as being offside with the community that it serves.

this is sad to here as the relationship in Hastings with wardens and police work well together. maybe they are stressed up north. hard enough trying to trust the law if the law are the ones that cant be trusted. I do know however there are some good officers around. Hope things improve
