The British government is going to bring back compulsory school cookery lessons in a bid to encourage a new generation of foodies.
Extra-curricular chef lessons are already proving popular and a new cookbook for youngsters is aimed at encouraging them into the kitchen.
From 2011 cookery will become compulsory for all 11-14 year olds.
The scheme is part of a drive to improve the health of Britain’s children. By next year it’s estimated one million of them will be obese.
800 new teachers are being trained to teach cookery. 750 specialist teaching assistants are also being recruited and 53 million pounds is being spent on new cooking facilities in schools.
