A Christchurch rest home at the centre of concerns about standard of care for patients will close next week.
Bermuda House Dementia Rest Home will close on December 11 after the Ministry of Health refused to renew its certification and Canterbury District Health Board subsequently terminated its contract.
CDHB's decision followed a HealthCert inspection in September, which was prompted by a number of anonymous complaints about the standards of care.
Bermuda House's designated audit agency also carried out a standard re-certification audit on behalf of HealthCert in November.
HealthCert has since decided against issuing a new operating certificate.
CDHB chief medical officer Nigel Millar says the main priority now is for the safety and wellbeing of the home's 12 residents.
"Any decision that will result in frail elderly people having to move from their home is always carefully considered," he said.
"But on this occasion it is in the best interests of the residents of Bermuda House to relocate them to appropriate facilities nearby as soon as is practical."
Dr Millar said the board would work with the home's owner along with operators of other aged care facilities to ensure skilled and experienced staff were retained in the Canterbury health system.
