The Duckworths are gone and now TVNZ is moving Coronation Street to a new, earlier time slot.

The show, currently airing at 7:30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays, will make way for MasterChef Australia which will air five nights a week – while Coro will now air in half-hour segments at 5:30pm.

A spokesperson for TVNZ said the change was a result of MasterChef’s popularity, with last year’s final show attracting more than one million viewers.

The change will take effect from October 17th, but is not permanent at this stage.

The Coronation Street omnibus on Saturdays will remain unchanged.

Bitterly disappointed in the move of Coronation St, it's one of my favourite programs, well over and above cooking shows etc. As others comment, I don't get home til 6:30-7:30 from work so 5:30 is no hope. Very bad decision, our household have also been boycotting TV1.

actually because of the change in times slots...now i dont watch masterchef at all... and only just manage to see coro..some times..can't make the saturday viewing ..it seems for me it has had the opposite effect. I have finished with one news and am now an advid 3 news watcher.. so thanks tv1... you have lost me! Actually if you no longer wish to view coro.. thats ok..give it to prime i think they would only be too happy to screen coro at 7.30 2 nights a week for an hour...that way you could loose all of us coro watching unwanted fans of yours.

The show I loved the most taken away, I don't get home till about 6.15pm each night so will miss it altogether, I frankly I don't have the time on saturday to sit down for 2 hours straight. Live sucks some times and TV One just proved it.

We have to save Coro timeslot It is more important than the RWC and the world Economic meltdown We need to ram home to the Kamikaze TVNZ boss Jeff Latch that he is a total idiot if he moves Coro out of its present spot He is committing Hari Kiri and deserves it As Mark Twain once correctly observed, TVNZ's Jeff Latch, is using "Lies, damned lies, and statistics", because 525,000 on average watch every episode of Coro Jeff Latch is only quoting 158,200, being only the 25 to 54 age group only Coro is the Number 1 watch program on all NZ TV most weeks, almost always ahead of horribly padded TV1 news Coro is already edited 10 minutes short due to it being 60 minutes in UK without adverts now they want to edit out all the Sex, all the Murders, all the crimes, all the violence, just to fit it into the Children's Hour What a pack of drongos We need to make sure they know we have had a guts full of cooking shows we need to tell the Masterchef advertisers...We will not shop with them... Countdown is principal sponsor Tell TVNZ you will totally stop watching almost all TVNZ programmes on TV1,TV2,TV7 & U David Thew Auckland

I cannot believe the programmers of TVNZ would even consider changing the time slot of the most popular programme ever watched by the majority of New Zealanders, ( showing only twice a week) This is part of weekly relaxation and is ridiculous to even consider replacing this time slot to 5.30pm when most of us are working,.... with pathetic cooking programme's there are so many...., coro is also currently scheduled at a time slot 7.30PM when we settle down and enjoy this iconic programme . Please get your marketing programers up to date and understand the needs of your. customers..Just look at the figures of the population that watch coro street cooking shows are so.. humdig...too many of them.. Keep the status quo for coronation street at 7.30pm when all of us enjoy the relaxation of the stories.. they are great and excellent for TVNZ .. IF A poll was subjected now with this ridiculous decision of changing ther time slot your viewing audience would be . IMMENESLY DEPLETED and TVNZ would lose advertising revenue ( I REPEAT UNBELIEVABLE TO EVEN CONSIDER THIS DECISION ( PLEASE THINK ABOUT THE ABOVE) THANK YOU

Well TVNZ seem to be happy to be on a path of destruction. Our household does not watch Breakfast since Pauls departure and certainly are sick of cooking programmes. 7.30 pm is an ideal time for Coronation St as we are all home from work by then. We now watch
TV3 early news at 8am. What a delight to receive news clearly and elegantly read by an intelligent young woman.

Think about the advertising viewing you will lose multiplied by hundreds of households. How arrogant of you not to even consult viewers!! Do your self a favour and pass the rights to Sky so at least we might get it a a suitable time.
