It has caused a war and been used by Cleopatra as a love potion, but now research suggests that the spice that gives curry its yellow colour - saffron - may also hold the key to treating our leading form of eye disease.
Macular degeneration affects one in seven New Zealanders over 50, and one Manawatu man is so determined to see whether saffron can help his mother, he's growing it and turning it into little golden pills.
