Residents want speed, efficiency and quality around processing of consents

Christchurch City Council will hire 69 more staff to help streamline its consent application process as the rebuilding of the city shifts up a gear.

The council, which this week was the subject of a protest by residents, voted on Thursday to bring in measures to help it cope with the expected additional 10,000 applications each year.

It will launch an online application process for group builders and project management offices as well as setting up special teams to help them through the process.

Mayor Bob Parker says the move away from paper forms will help it cope with the expected influx of consent applications.

"Our residents have told us they want speed, efficiency and quality around the processing of consents, and providing this will be a critical element of the rebuild," he said.
