The North Queensland Cowboys are the favoured NRL club to sign Greg Bird for next season.

Cowboys' boss Peter Parr said few NRL clubs could match a Cowboys offer, but the club hadn’t made a final decision on whether to offer a contract to Bird.

The 25-year-old had his conviction for glassing his girlfriend Katie Milligan thrown out on appeal by Judge Michael Finnane on Wednesday.

Bird is understood to not want to return to Sydney and wants to make a decision on his future soon, after spending last season playing for the Catalan Dragons in the English Super League.

The Gold Coast Titans are also understood to be planning to hold talks with Bird.

NRL chief executive David Gallop said that any club that signed Bird would have to “give us an idea of how they’re going to deal with him.”

Gallop also said that Bird’s re-registration with the NRL would not be automatic.

The Cronulla Sharks, Bird's former team, have ruled out signing him.
