Craig Lowndes is making a last minute charge for the V8 Supercar title.
Heading into the final weekend, Lowndes was only a long shot, but he found the Sydney streets to be paved with gold. When Jamie Whincup crashed out of the race the Holden driver pounced.
Running on fumes, Michael Caruso became a sitting duck and Shane van Gisbergen couldn't miss as he breezed past the Fujitsu Holden to claim third - behind Garth Tander - but it was Lowndes’ trademark grin that gained extra width - he was now a real chance for the title.
The Sydney weather split the field in race two as half the cars started from pit lane so they could change to dry tyres.
Lowndes title hopes ran into trouble though when he ran into Russel Ingall, proving the streets of Homebush will always continue to punish.
