Police in Australia have set up a crime scene near the bar where missing Melbourne woman Jill Meagher was last seen.

A huge social media campaign was launched yesterday after the ABC employee disappeared in the early hours of Saturday morning.

There were fears Ms Meagher may have been abducted after leaving Bar Etiquette on Sydney Road, Brunswick, around 1:30am. Police believe the Irish national was planning to walk the short distance home after a night out.

Ms Meagher’s husband Thomas and police were asking the public for information on her disappearance yesterday, and her ABC colleagues, including presenters and management, started tweeting and retweeting links to news stories about her.

A Facebook page created yesterday called “Help us find Jill Meagher” now has 17,000 followers and is encouraging people to print off a poster of her to put up around the city.

Mr Meagher told the Sydney Morning Herald he was worried about his wife, but says the response on social media is great.

Police are reviewing CCTV footage of the area where she was last seen and checking to see if her phone or credit card have been used.

A short time ago they confirmed items relating to their search for Ms Meagher had been located on Hope St, ABC News reported.

Recent reports suggest the Victoria police homicide squad have been called in to investigate.

Ms Meagher is described as 165cm tall, slim build, with fair skin, curly brown hair and brown eyes.
