Pornographer Steve Crow is defending his decision to have bare breasted women on show over ANZAC weekend.

The Erotica Expo, and Boobs on Bikes parade, are being planned for Palmerston North, Levin and Wanganui on April 23.

Parades will be held on Levin's Oxford St, and Wanganui's London St and Victoria Ave, before heading to The Square in Palmerston North.

Mr Crow says Anzac weekend was a last resort.

“Unfortunately it was the only dates that the Palmerston North Convention Centre was available and I had to weigh it up really carefully because I knew I was going to cop some backlash about it but reality was they were the only dates we could have.”

Steve Crow says ANZAC day is a special day for him - he owns the New Plymouth RSA and last year marched in the Dawn Service parade carrying his father's ashes.

as an american citizen living in wanganui, i am surprised at the pervathon scheduled this week. it is a final degradation to women, and i have lost any respect for his nibs the mayor's take on all of this. he wants to put wanganui on the map, but by these means? i hope they have to drive thru cow droppings that day, they deserve it and more.

And again .. another silly comment from a ignorant minded person (I'm reffering to the above from leonie 25 Mar 2010 2:09a.m). 'Getting down and dirty' .. seriously, how old are you? Don't tell me that you're one of Steve Crows buyers of the year? Sounds like you've been watching too many boobs on bikes h-o-n-e-y. And if you can't respect ANZAC day the way that it should be then you need to hung out to dry as well. Perhaps you should take your opinion to an RSA and see what they think. Have a good one getting 'down and dirty' (sounds like you don't have much else). Peace (and remember Earth Hour :)

Errrr I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for my mama and daddy getting down and dirty "honey", you can go and remember the troops wherever you like, just let the rest continue with life in whichever manner that they so choose. If that is boobs on bikes, so bloody be it.

Ok .. at least there are SOME sensible minded people who are commenting. In answer to some questions e.g: nigel on the 21 Mar 2010 12:36p.m. You asked a few questions, "Why is Steve Crow pathetic, what is wrong with sex on ANZAC weekend, why is it disgraceful and disrespectful, is sex bad or something?". Well .. let me give this a try: Steve is pathetic (the meaning of pathetic used as a synonym would be better described perhaps as pitiable, wretched or sad) that is what he is. It is disgraceful and disrespectful because it takes the focus of what ANZAC means. Is sex bad? Of course not! Otherwise we all wouldn't exist! This isn't about sex - this is about THE DAY celebrated, where 'we will remember them'. That's why it is wrong and why Steve Crow is pathetic. Then there is the question from Leonie made on 21 Mar 2010 6:22p.m. Who said that the world should stop turning on ANZAC day? You must remember honey that you wouldn't be here in this world had it not been for those men and women that fought and died for our liberty! Again this has nothing to do about sex! This is about his distraction from the true meaning of ANZAC day. His father would have taught the bugger about it - surely?? ... especially if the man carries his ashes on parades .. don't you think?? and then there is Siomon who left a message on 21 Mar 2010 6:25p.m. Having a beer at a pub is far different than seeing women bare chested rolling down the streets on motorbikes! Do a bit of reading and check out history as to why both Kiwi and Aussie go to the pub and drink as a token for 'buying a pint' for their fellow mate that was killed and sharing memories of days past. As for allowing this to take place - better off in Palmy than in Auckland then. I'm sure there would be quite a bit more protest against it in Auckland had they attempted to do that there on ANZAC day. Better yet - go to Sydney Australia and see how far down the street Steve would get.

Good on ya Steve, as someone that lives in palmy I find nothing wrong with what he is doing. If you don't like Boobs on bikes: don't watch it.
The news article spoke of the mayor saying the public of palmy was not behind it, previous years have seen the streets full of people to see it, and I'm sure the council has no problem with the added revenue brought into the city that the expo brings in.
As for being disprepectful towards ANZAC day, how does this expo differ from everybody heading to the pubs at 10am after the dawn parades and drinking themselves stupid to "celebrate" ANZACs and their sacrifices - thats more disrepectful in my eyes.

I don't see why the world must stop turning on ANZAC weekend, theré isn't any disrespect intended, he is a business man like any other, people want sex, he provides it, if you don't like it, stick your head in a hole until its all over!

I always knew this guy was a disgusting creep and this just proves it. Stupid women who lower themselves to allow this man to get his jollies at their expense. One day they will realise this I hope. This man's sick ideas have no place in an ANZAC weekend. Using that weekend as a last resort ??? how about canning the idea altogether instead and crawl back under the rock you came out from steve crow
