Meet Open Rescue, a small group of determined young New Zealanders on a quest to put a stop to factory farms.

Since 2006, Open Rescue members have been filming themselves raiding factory farms in secret, their identities hidden, and making off with animals. It’s only now, as they mount a renewed campaign against battery egg farming, that they have decided to show the full extent of their often illegal activities – and front up without fear.

“Over the years we have rescued thousands of chickens, I couldn’t give you an exact figure, perhaps two or three thousand,” says one member.

But as 60 Minutes discovers, with major consequences if convicted, their missions often require military-style precision.

Some farming practices are terrible in 'clean green NZ'. Its a pity that the consummers of all the battery eggs and other chicken products do not see the birds in their living conditions before they eat. How many would eat chicken then.
Then there are the caged pigs and their awful living conditions and then there are the cows that are forced to abort their calves so the farmer can get the milk. Also the calves that are taken off their mothers and sent to the works without knowing what it is to live. It goes on and on and the money comes in.
Everything is done for the money with no thought for the animals welfare.

Must be lovely to be able to scratch huh. These farmers dont care about how these animals are kept. All they care about is making money. The lives of these animals means very little to these people. Good on those showing us all how terrible these poor animals lives are. Hope this practice is stopped very soon. Disgraceful
