Taihape pharmacists believe cuts to healthcare services will damage the town.

The Otaihape Health Trust has given the DHB and nurses' union 10 days to accept an ultimatum that would slash nurse wages by up to 30 percent and cut the office rent the trust pays the Whanganui DHB.

The trust is on the brink of bankruptcy, facing mounting debts and increasing costs.

Pharmacist Neil Riddle was at a community meeting last night where the plan was presented to the community. He says all DHBs have a responsibility to provide rural healthcare.

The trust has set a 10-day deadline for the DHB to accept the recommendations.

HELP.... that is what we are asking..It is not the DHB that is cutting cost's it is the Otaihape Health Ltd. this is a business and is running at a loss, so we need to address the situation in a business like manner. the union is at the present not prepared to speak to the Trust so the ball is in their court and the town is at their mercy. John if you can come down and perhaps mediate with both parties then that would be great , we need someone with common sense and detached from the town HELP. As a Pharmacy there will be an obvious run on effect to us, as there will be to all business's in the town. We need to keep as much of our services intact, and there needs to be agreement for all, which means some sacrifice in the short term for others ! There must be as willingness to go forward in some shape - but to not talk at this point is futile. All people have financial commitments, and a cut in pay is not nice, but NO pay is even worse, not only for those directly involved, but for all the others that will be affected. I can be contacted at 06 388 0000 if there is any further information needed that may be required. THIS NEEDS ACTION !
